Ski Jumping World Cup Cancelled in Predazzo for 2025

Significant changes have emerged for the upcoming Ski Jumping World Cup calendar concerning the highly anticipated event in Predazzo, Italy. Unfortunately, the Val di Fiemme World Cup, slated to serve as a test for the 2026 Olympic Games, has been officially canceled.
The cancellation stems from the news that the ski jumping facility intended for the 2026 Olympics will not be ready in time for the scheduled World Cup on January 11 and 12, 2025.
Last week, the FIS (International Ski Federation) received a notice from the Organizing Committee for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games indicating that delays in construction have made it impossible to complete the venue in time for the test event. The Province of Trento, overseeing the management and completion of the facility, shared that the venue is now expected to be handed over by the end of April 2025.
As a result, the planned Men's and Women's Ski Jumping World Cup events for that weekend have been canceled.
FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile expressed his disappointment, stating:
"The information we received last week was unexpected and, unfortunately, affects our World Cup calendar as well as the crucial preparation for the Olympic Winter Games in Milan Cortina 2026. Test events are vital for the flawless execution of the Olympic Games."
Despite this setback, Pertile remains optimistic and has already devised a backup plan. "The facility should be completed by April or May 2025, as we’ve received a firm commitment on this. Therefore, we plan to hold Grand Prix competitions at the venue during the summer of 2025 as part of our summer competition series. We will conduct individual competitions, men's super team events, and mixed team competitions—all as planned, but in summer instead of winter. This will provide us with essential experience and testing ahead of the Olympics.
Additionally, the facility will be open for training throughout the summer of 2025, offering teams valuable time to prepare. It’s worth noting that we have a highly skilled partner in the organizing committee in Predazzo. They have organized World Cups since 1990 and possess an exceptional team.
Currently, it appears that the weekend will remain open on the World Cup calendar, falling directly after the Four Hills Tournament. This timing allows everyone involved to catch their breath in what is otherwise a demanding season. At least, that is the plan for now," Pertile concluded.
