There Will Be No Ski Jumping This Weekend – Here’s Why. FIS Had to Do It

This weekend, fans of ski jumping will not be able to watch any World Cup events. FIS has decided to insert one of two planned breaks into this season’s calendar.
Ski jumpers have already begun their preparations for the world championships in Trondheim, set to start next week. The break comes after the Sapporo round, giving the athletes a chance to rest without having to worry about World Cup standings. This pause is seen as a positive move by the federation since competitions held immediately before major events like the world championships typically draw little interest, and many top jumpers prefer a period of relaxed training.
In a conversation with Eurosport, Sandro Pertile explained that the decision was influenced by the realization from the previous year that the season is extremely long. "I will never forget the competition in Planica, where for various reasons we had more accidents than in all earlier contests. We had to understand that the competitors are not machines," he said. Pertile added that break periods are also important as athletes, despite their professional commitments, have families to care for. This is why two breaks were scheduled this season – one after the Four Hills Tournament and another before the world championships. This gives the jumpers a chance to recuperate and potentially perform better during the final phase of the season.
