New Rules in Ski Jumping: Half Tried to Cheat

As the Ski Jumping World Cup season begins, not only the performances of the jumpers excited fans, but also the new equipment rules. Christian Kathol, the equipment controller, shares insights about implementing these regulations and addressing numerous disqualifications witnessed in Lillehammer.
In Lillehammer, Kathol noted, "If I hadn't given second chances, probably half wouldn't have been able to jump." He highlights that adjustments were necessary to ensure fair competition without compromising the safety of the sport.
The new rules focus primarily on the design and fit of the jumpers' suits, reflecting stricter regulations compared to previous seasons. Kathol explained that many athletes were caught wearing suits that were either too large or did not meet the new standards.
As the season progresses, Kathol remains hopeful that these changes will encourage fairness across all teams, stating, "Most teams are satisfied; it feels fairer now." He anticipates that further modifications regarding the upper part of the suits will be discussed in the spring, ensuring that the sport continues to prioritize competitiveness and safety.
