Mixed Team as a Morale Booster – Germany Celebrates Victory

In Lake Placid, the mixed-team competition has served as a much-needed boost for the German ski jumpers. After a dismal individual performance – notably with Andreas Wellinger finishing 16th in the men's event – the mixed team consisting of Agnes Reisch, Selina Freitag, Philipp Raimund, and Andreas Wellinger came together in a winning effort on the night of Sunday, 09.02.2025.
The competition began strongly when starter Agnes Reisch, in her first World Cup podium appearance, set the pace by jumping 119 meters to put Germany into pole position ahead of Norway and Austria. Energized by her flight, Philipp Raimund followed with a 121‐meter jump, even managing a humorous quip about distracting himself with his laptop—an unusual tactic he admitted with a laugh during an interview.
Selina Freitag then emerged as the star of the night. With two top jumps – including a best jump of 124 meters – she not only extended Germany’s lead but also provided the crucial impetus in the final round. Although Andreas Wellinger’s first jump of 119 meters was slightly off his usual form, he redeemed himself in the concluding round by delivering a clean 124.5-meter jump. This final effort ensured that Germany held off the challenges from Norway’s Johann Andre Forfang and Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig, who both posted shorter distances in their final jumps.
The win has proven to be a morale booster after the earlier setback in the individual event, and there is hope that another individual competition scheduled for Sunday might offer a chance to turn things around. With the mixed-team victory highlighting the team’s resilience and ability to come together, the German squad looks ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
