In an exhilarating finale to the FIS Grand Prix 2024, Norway's Marius Lindvik emerged victorious in the last individual competition held in Klingenthal, Germany. He clinched the title with a narrow lead, finishing just 3.2 points ahead of Slovenia's Timi Zajc and fellow Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud.
Lindvik's Impressive Summer
“It was a great competition for me and the entire team today. My second jump was really good; the first one just didn't come together,” reflected Lindvik, who had been in fifth place after the opening round. He added, “The atmosphere in our team is fantastic, and with today’s performance, we feel very positive about the upcoming winter season.” This victory marks Lindvik’s third win this summer, having previously dominated both events at the Grand Prix opener in Wisla, Poland.
With his triumph in Klingenthal, Lindvik secured third place in the overall Grand Prix standings, finishing with 300 points. He edged out Italy's Alex Insam, who had hoped to claim the overall title but fell short by placing 25th in the day’s competition, ending with 299 points.
The German team also showcased their strength during this prestigious event, despite not achieving a podium finish. The DSV eagles claimed notable spots with Pius Paschke in 4th, Andreas Wellinger in 8th, and Markus Eisenbichler along with Stephan Leyhe finishing in 14th and 15th, respectively.
Pawel Wasek’s Career Milestone
In a noteworthy achievement, Polish jumper Pawel Wasek secured the overall Grand Prix title, marking the high point of his career. Competing without Austria's Stefan Kraft, who opted out to attend the “Sportsman of the Year” election—where he finished second—Wasek managed to take 25th place in the day's competition. His total of 329 points placed him comfortably ahead of Kraft (305 points) and Lindvik (300 points).
“This success is incredibly significant for me after the season. I participated in all the summer competitions to prepare for the winter. Winning the Grand Prix is a fantastic achievement, and I’m thrilled,” said Wasek, brimming with happiness.
As summer competition comes to a close, the final event remains—a mixed team competition featuring both men and women—scheduled to begin on Sunday at 14:45.
