Major Stir After Dawid Kubacki is Sidelined: 'They Rushed'

Dawid Kubacki will not participate in the World Cup competitions in Engelberg. This news, announced by the Polish Ski Association, has caused quite a stir, although it is not entirely surprising. "So indeed without training. But there probably wasn’t any other option," believes Jakub Balcerski from Sport.pl.

The decision regarding the squad for the next competition in Engelberg was reportedly to be made based on a special test. Kacper Merk from Eurosport noted, based on the words of Thomas Thurnbichler, that a decision about changes would be made at the middle of the week after the training sessions in Wisla.

However, it quickly became clear that the verdict was reached before the activities at the Polish venue. The PZN announced on Monday who would travel to Switzerland. Compared to the Titisee-Neustadt competition, there is one change — Piotr Żyła replaces Dawid Kubacki.

Piotr Żyła instead of Dawid Kubacki. The world of ski jumping reacts. Kubacki has long been a key member of the Polish national team in the World Cup. Such a decision from the coaching staff is never easy, but the athlete's results surely provide some justification.

Currently, Kubacki has 49 points in the overall World Cup classification, placing him in 26th position, but his recent performances have been lackluster. In the last two competitions in Germany, he failed to score a single point, finishing 37th and 41st in the opening series. He has also failed to qualify for the second series four times in total.

Despite this, Thurnbichler's decision has sparked quite a reaction. "They were too quick to make this internal test in Wisla," mocks Michał Chmielewski. The TVP Sport journalist referred to reports about the plans of the coaching staff.

"So indeed without training. But there probably wasn’t any other option," emphasizes Jakub Balcerski from Sport.pl.

"They rushed on these decisions, which were supposed to happen after the training on Wednesday," comments journalist Kuba Karpiński.

The five that Thurnbichler nominated for the World Cup events in Engelberg are: Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Jakub Wolny, Kamil Stoch, and Piotr Żyła.
