Lindsey Vonn Applies for Wildcard - Will She Compete in World Cup Races This Year?
Originally published in Krone.at on November 20, 2024
Lindsey Vonn has applied for a wildcard to race in the Super-G events in St. Moritz on December 21 and 22. This move stems from her determination to return to the competitive circuit after several years of absence. The FIS has confirmed the application, indicating a private interest in witnessing her comeback.
Currently, Vonn is training in Copper Mountain. She is set to serve as a fore-runner in World Cup events at Beaver Creek on December 14 and 15. Assuming everything goes well, her target will be to navigate the challenges in St. Moritz and earn world cup points shortly thereafter.
A remarkable aspect of her current situation is that she could become the second athlete, after Marcel Hirscher, to make a return post-retirement. Vonn retired about five years ago and is looking to utilize the newly established wildcard to re-enter the sport.
