"I still have one dream - to jump over 200 m," Andre Fussenegger wrote on his Instagram at the beginning of March. The Austrian was announcing his retirement. He achieved his goal, although it didn’t come without complications.
On April 2, 2025, 22-year-old Austrian ski jumper Andre Fussenegger retired from the sport. During the weekend, he acted as a test jumper at Letalnica and managed to fly a remarkable 212 meters, improving his personal best by 18 meters. He fell while landing but fortunately only sustained minor injuries. "That was a fantastic way to finish. Now I can hang up my skis," he told Krone.at.
Fussenegger explained his decision to retire at such a young age, saying, "I thought about it for a while, as I no longer saw any purpose in continuing. In Austria, it is just very difficult since the competition is extremely tough."
This is not the first such decision among Austrian representatives. This arises directly from not only the impressive form of the Austrian team but also from the reduction of starting quotas by FIS.
