Three-time Olympic champion Kamil Stoch did not hide his disappointment after the Summer Grand Prix ski jumping event held in Wisła last Saturday. Finishing in 16th place, he missed the opportunity to compete in the follow-up event on Sunday. Four fellow Polish jumpers surpassed his performance, prompting coach Thomas Thurnbichler to select them to compete instead.
Stoch shared his feelings candidly with reporters, stating, "I don’t know why my body didn’t want to cooperate today. I felt extremely tense, which hindered my ability to perform the simplest actions. This discomfort comes from various factors. I don’t want to make excuses, but the bottom line is that I delivered my worst jumps of the summer here in Wisła. I am truly disappointed in myself."
After the event at the Adam Małysz hill, Stoch admitted he was furious with his performance, saying, "Yet, I know the work I’ve put in thus far. I am capable of much better jumps. Nonetheless, this weekend doesn’t define anything. I just need to reflect and continue working hard."
Who will take part in Sunday's competition in Wisła?
Stoch's comments were confirmed as the lineup for the Sunday Summer Grand Prix competition in Wisła was announced. The following jumpers will take to the hill: Aleksander Zniszczoł, Dawid Kubacki, Jakub Wolny, and Paweł Wąsek. Stoch was realistic about his chances of competing, stating, "From what I’ve heard, the top four Polish jumpers from Saturday will be performing on Sunday, so I’m not deluding myself about competing."
On a bright note for Estonian ski jumping, Artti Aigro claimed a place as a noteworthy surprise, finishing second in Saturday's event, just behind the impressive Marius Lindvik. The success of the 25-year-old was highlighted by the official FIS X profile, proclaiming, "A historic day for Estonian ski jumping. Artti Aigro takes second place," in a post shortly after the competition.
The prologue will kick off at 13:30 on Sunday, with the first competition series set to begin at 15:00.
