A great talent in ski jumping is rising! Kacper Misiek is just 15 years old but is already achieving serious successes. In the future, he could become a key figure in the Polish national team, should he decide to ski for it. The biggest challenge is that this talented jumper trains under the guidance of German coaches. He also holds dual citizenship and does not hide that he may face a very difficult decision.
In an interview with Skijumping.pl, he reveals his biggest strengths and who his idol is.
Kacper Misiek trains at the German club TSV Buchenberg and has already accounted for some serious successes across the border. He has already claimed victory in the overall classification of the Bavarian cycle, and he secured a third place at the Bavarian Championships, along with three silver medals in the Deutscher Schüler Cup for the under-15 category held at the well-known normal hill in Oberstdorf.
In an interview, his father, Tomasz Misiek, shared about the beginnings: "We live in a mountainous region and searched for clubs that have a ski jumping section. The closest one was in Buchenberg. That’s how our adventure with this club and ski jumping began. Kacper has three younger brothers, each starting to make their first steps in ski jumping. Franciszek is 12, Jan is 10, and Karol is 6 years old."
Kacper dreams of winning Olympic gold and breaking the world record for long-distance flight. Skiing gives him enormous joy.
— I love that feeling of flying, and nothing can stop me from traversing space — says the 15-year-old to Skijumping.pl.
At a junior level, he is already aware of his advantages.
— My strengths are mainly my take-off position, which allows me to reach some of the best speeds on the ramp — he admits, but upon reflection, he sees even greater opportunities in his mindset and mentality.
Kacper Misiek may be the future of Polish skiing. However, there is one problem.
His idol is a Polish star, although from the very beginning of his ski jumping adventure, he is surrounded by German coaches.
— The one who will always remain important to me from the beginning to the end is Kamil Stoch. It's mainly thanks to him that I'm now jumping — he says frankly, but also observes the flight technique of Marius Lindvik and Timi Zajc.
The Polish Ski Association should definitely keep an eye on him, but they need to be careful. Misiek is proficient in two languages and possesses dual citizenship. In his first interview with Polish media, he openly admits he might have to decide which colors he will jump in.
— Choosing a national team is one of the hardest decisions I might face someday. I will choose when the right moment comes — the 15-year-old honestly confesses. However, his coach’s words can be a cause for concern.
— I can picture Kacper as an important figure in the German representation in the future — predicts Philipp Laminet. However, the decision will ultimately belong to the teenager.
