Justin Lisso Faces Setback with ACL Injury
Originally published in Sport1 on August 30, 2024
German ski jumper Justin Lisso has encountered a significant setback, as he will be sidelined for the entire World Championship season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament. The 24-year-old athlete had just gotten back on the slopes after recovering from a previous injury sustained in the summer of 2023. Unfortunately, he suffered this new injury during his second jump, which he revealed in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Despite undergoing a successful operation, Lisso remains determined not to retire from the sport. With a hopeful outlook, he aims to return to competition and express his intention to be back on the slopes within twelve months.
Having competed in the World Cup eleven times, Lisso’s highlight came in January 2022, when he secured an impressive 11th place finish at Titisee-Neustadt. However, his journey has been fraught with challenges; he already missed the entire 2019/20 season due to a syndesmosis tear in his left ankle. His original goal was to compete in the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim, but this latest injury has forced him to temporarily set aside those ambitions.
