Johann André Forfang achieved his season’s first individual win in ski jumping in Lake Placid, a milestone that ended a long 335-day period without a victory. Forfang, 29, has been very open about how his father’s severe cancer diagnosis has affected him. This win not only marked a sporting success but also served as an emotional boost for his family during a difficult time.

In his post-win interview, Forfang expressed his gratitude for being able to give back to his family. "It feels wonderful to be able to do something meaningful for them in this period when I can’t be at home," he said, emphasizing the importance of the victory as a source of energy and motivation during long journeys away from his family.

Coaches and team officials also praised his performance. Team sports director Jan-Erik Aalbu commended Forfang’s ability to stay focused despite personal challenges, while head coach Magnus Brevig highlighted that the victory was well-deserved after a period of consistent podium finishes. Forfang’s win, which also marks Norway’s first individual win on the men’s side this season, is a testament to his resilience and commitment in the face of both sporting and personal challenges.

This achievement builds on Forfang’s recent form, having secured several other top-placements in the last five events. With the World Championships on the horizon, the entire team is buoyed by this performance and optimistic about what the future holds.
