During the qualifying round of the individual contest in Klingenthal, Jakub Wolny faced a terrifying moment that nearly resulted in a fall, finishing in last place. Coach Thomas Thurnbichler described the experience as a result of "tough weather conditions and a small technical error.” Don't miss the video showcasing the 29-year-old’s jump.
On October 4, 2024, Klingenthal hosted the concluding events of the Summer Grand Prix series. The qualifications on Friday turned out to be thrilling, with Timi Zajc claiming victory with an impressive jump of 137 meters, followed closely by Ryoyu Kobayashi at 135.5 meters and Gregor Deschwanden at 133 meters. The standout performance among Polish athletes was by Paweł Wąsek, who placed eighth with a jump of 127 meters. Dawid Kubacki and Aleksander Zniszczoł also secured spots in the next round. In stark contrast, Wolny's jump measured a mere 87.5 meters, marking the lowest in the competition.
Wolny’s jump was fraught with drama, as he struggled mid-air and had to execute an impressive maneuver to ensure a safe landing.
Interestingly, Wąsek currently leads the Grand Prix series, boosting his chances for overall victory. His closest rival, Stefan Kraft, is not participating, leaving Alex Insam in third, trailing Wąsek by 24 points, yet Insam has underperformed in recent competitions held in Austria. Jan Hoerl sits in fourth, already 98 points behind Wąsek, giving him only a slim mathematical chance to unseat Wąsek in the standings.
Anticipation builds for Saturday’s events, with a trial series scheduled for 14:55, followed by the individual contest at 15:55. Sunday promises another trial at 13:30, leading up to the mixed team competition at 14:45. Fans can catch the action live on the Przegląd Sportowy Onet website.
