Fatal performance by Polish jumper! Jakub Wolny did not qualify for the second round of the World Cup in Kuusamo on Saturday, and the next day his competition ended even earlier. The Polish jumper was disqualified for a non-compliant suit. From Finland, voices have emerged suggesting that he was furious after deciding to change his equipment. The risk did not pay off, and now he is receiving backlash from experts and fans.
Four Polish jumpers advanced to Sunday’s competition at the venue in Finland. Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczol, Dawid Kubacki, and Kamil Stoch made it through the qualifiers. The winner of the contest, Pius Paschke, made an impressive jump of 144.5 m.
Jakub Wolny's disqualification was harsh. He had done a jump of 105.5 m, which should have been enough for advancement. After his jump, he was sixth and was only waiting for equipment control. Then came the verdict. Judges disqualified the 29-year-old, denying him a spot in the Sunday event. "He was very upset after this event," said Eurosport correspondent Kacper Merk from Kuusamo. "A failed expedition, ended with a sad cherry on top," he added.
He also received criticism from other experts who recalled his results from Saturday’s qualifiers and the first individual competition.
"Jakub Wolny, Ruka 2024: 47-32-42-DSQ [disqualification]. And supposedly the hill is 'very' large. It was supposed to favor."
"Maciej Kot didn’t make it to the second round twice in Lillehammer. Jakub Wolny didn’t make it to the second round once and was disqualified in the qualifiers in Ruka. Can we really afford to give a fifth spot to some young talent? No difference will be made," believes Sebastian Warzecha, head of the 'other sports' section at Weszło.com.
Results of Polish jumpers in the Sunday qualifiers: - 21. Paweł Wąsek — 133 m (qualified for the competition) - 23. Aleksander Zniszczol — 129.5 m (qualified for the competition) - 28. Dawid Kubacki — 123.5 m (qualified for the competition) - 41. Kamil Stoch — 112 m (qualified for the competition) - Wolny — disqualification.
