Incredible Flight of a Pole: He Jumped Over the Ski Jump and the Biggest Stars

Łukasz Łukaszczyk, a 17-year-old ski jumper from Zakopane, has become one of the most promising talents in Polish ski jumping over the last year. His record jump, successes in international competitions, and a bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games have brought him recognition both domestically and abroad. Unfortunately, he faced a setback due to an injury that sidelined him for several months.

In January this year, Łukaszczyk made history by setting a ski jump record in Pyeongchang during training before the Youth Olympic Games. He achieved a distance of 114 meters, making him the new record holder and surpassing the previous record held by Stefan Kraft by half a meter. Notably, Łukaszczyk not only achieved this historic mark but also managed to land the jump, something Slovenian Jure Sinkovec, who previously jumped 114.5 meters, was unable to do.

During the Youth Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Łukaszczyk confirmed his form and talent by winning a bronze medal. These successes opened the door for him to compete in FIS Cup events, where he consistently landed on the podium. He also made his debut in the Continental Cup, finishing 29th in Planica.

Unfortunately, at the end of 2024, the young athlete's career faced a temporary halt. Łukaszczyk underwent knee surgery, which will keep him out of competition for 3-4 months. "The surgery went well, and Łukasz is now focusing on rehabilitation. We hope he returns to the ski jump soon," said PZN's sports director Alexander Stoeckl.

The Polish Ski Association emphasizes that the young jumper has great potential and significant chances for a comeback. Fans who admire his spectacular jumps and tenacious attitude are also eagerly awaiting his return to competition.
