In Autrans, the Ski Jumping Ramp from the Grenoble Olympics has been Renovated

The ski jump ramp in Autrans, the same one used during the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, was re-inaugurated recently after renovation efforts led by local volunteers. Young ski jumpers from the US Autrans club spent three nights pitching tents at the foot of the ramp and preparing for training sessions on their favorite jumps.

This ski jump ramp, which has become a cherished site for the local community, faced significant challenges. The largest of the three jumps was no longer in use due to high costs associated with bringing it up to current standards. Recently, the municipality supported funding for the renovation of the 60-meter ramp, which is set to be inaugurated this weekend, although the club had to raise funds for additional repairs on the launch rails used for ski jumping.

The ski jumpers ranging in age from 14 to 17 played a crucial role in the renovation, stacking pallets, and leveling the reception areas. This teamwork reflects the strong community spirit surrounding ski jumping in Autrans, ensuring that the legacy began during the 1968 Olympics continues to thrive today.

In the words of the club’s president, "This sport relies entirely on the commitment of participants and their families." The involvement of championship athletes like Martin Fourcade and Emilien Jacquelin has also been instrumental in rallying support for this initiative.

As the community gathers to celebrate the newly renovated ramp, they are reminded of the history and legacy of the Grenoble Olympics while looking forward to the future of ski jumping in Autrans.
