Impressive Performance by the Pole in Qualifications! He Made It to the Elite Group
In the morning qualifications for the World Cup competition in Engelberg, competitors faced strong winds and heavy rain. Austrian skier Maximilian Ortner performed best with a jump of 134 meters. Polish skier Jakub Wolny secured a spot in the afternoon competition, finishing fifth with a jump of 126 meters, placing him among the elite group of six athletes who exceeded the hill's construction point of 125 meters.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Polish team was represented by five athletes, including Wolny, Piotr Żyła, Kamil Stoch, Aleksander Zniszczoł, and Paweł Wąsek. Wolny's performance was notable, achieving high enough to qualify comfortably, while Żyła and Stoch also managed to qualify despite lower jumps at 112 meters and 113.5 meters, respectively.
The qualifications were initially concerning, as the jump distances achieved by many competitors were underwhelming due to the adverse weather. However, after a pause, conditions improved, allowing for continued competition. Wolny's strong showing highlights the resilience and talent within the Polish ski jumping contingent, as they look ahead to further competitions in Engelberg and the iconic Four Hills Tournament.
