FIS | Hosts Slovenia seeks further ski flying success in Planica season finale

Slovenia's World Championship gold medal winning men’s team will have the opportunity to round off a fascinating 2024/25 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup campaign on their home hill as the season reaches its climax with a triple-header in Planica (SLO).

Domen Prevc, who also won the men’s large hill contest at Trondheim 2025, alongside team champions Lovro Kos, Timi Zajc, and Anze Lanisek, will be part of the nine-strong Slovenian line-up.

From March 27-30, they will seek to continue their nation’s proud streak of success on the Gorišek brothers’ HS240 Flying Hill, which has featured a Slovenian victory in at least one World Cup event every year for the last three editions.

"The season is not going well for me and I can't wait for the summer, but I think I have a real chance of success," said Zajc, who secured victory in the 2022/23 campaign.

"I’m looking forward to possibly winning something this weekend."

While Slovenia’s leading athletes focus on contenders for both individual and team successes during the four-day competition, attention will also be given to Austria's strongest pair competing this season.

Daniel Tschofenig holds an impressive 114-point advantage over his teammate Jan Hoerl in the race for the FIS World Cup Overall title, proving to be a favorite for the Crystal Globe. However, Hoerl remains motivated to chase his first overall title.

Japanese Olympic champion jumper Ryoyu Kobayashi set the current hill record with a stunning effort of 252m in 2019, and many believe this mark could be challenged during this event.

Several athletes will be targeting the 'small' Crystal Globe crown, which is awarded to the jumper with the most points across the ski flying season. Prevc leads this competition with 305 points, followed by Zajc on 222 points.

Joergen Graabak, Slovenia's team head coach, expressed confidence: "Our eagles have been successful recently and will lead the crowd this weekend. We are very prepared for this weekend and it should be a joyous occasion."

Host nation Slovenia is looking enthusiastically toward a full stand, expecting thousands of spectators, including many children from different countries. The atmosphere is exceptional, especially during the team event.

This four-day event promises high-stakes competition as athletes fend for points in individual categories while race for the Crystal Globe. With Slovenia's promising recent record and host nation pride, the stakes are high at Planica!
