Hopeful Reisch Emerges from the Shadow of Her Team

At the Ski Jumping World Cup event in Willingen, the German female ski jumpers largely disappointed at home. However, 25‐year‑old Agnes Reisch managed to turn heads with a standout performance on the world’s biggest hill – the Mühlenkopfschanze. In a competition held under near-perfect weather conditions with bright sunshine and picturesque fir trees, Reisch enjoyed every moment of being airborne. She described the experience as "extremely cool," noting how the cheers of the spectators and the rumbling of the crowd from below heightened the thrill of her jump.
This was Reisch’s first competitive jump on the Mühlenkopfschanze, and she delivered by reaching a distance of 142 meters – the farthest she had ever jumped in a contest. Although her teammates did not fare as well—Katharina Schmid finished eleventh and Selina Freitag eighth—Reisch’s performance is seen as a significant sign that she is emerging from the shadows of her more established colleagues. Having overcome a nearly one-year layoff due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in May 2021, her strong showing in Willingen and a previous top-four finish in Oberstdorf bode well for her future. With plans to keep her focus solely on ski jumping as she heads to Lake Placid next, Reisch remains determined to maintain her success and perhaps even reach the podium soon.
