The Nations Cup classification clearly illustrates the Austrian dominance in this World Cup season – they currently have 5,735 points, while their closest competitors trail by 2,775 points. A week ago in Oberstdorf, for the first time there was not a single Austrian on the podium. In the individual competition on Saturday, the Austrians scored the season’s lowest points with 166; by way of comparison, the best result among the Polish jumpers was only 82 points.

However, there is no sign of a crisis. Everything fell into place in Willingen, where Daniel Tschofenig celebrated his first career double victory by winning both competitions. Maximilian Ortner and Jan Hoerl also stood on the podium, signaling a shift in fortunes behind the Austrians.

German Troubles – A Drop to Third Place

After the weekend in Willingen, the Norwegians leaped to second in the Nations Cup standings. This improvement was largely due to outstanding performances by Johann Andre Forfang and solid top-ten finishes from Kristoffera Eriksena Sundal, Benjamin Oestvold, and Halvor Egner Granerud. In contrast, in front of their home crowd the German jumpers did not deliver: on Saturday’s second round only Felix Hoffmann, Andreas Wellinger, and Pius Paschke managed to score, and on Sunday only two of the jumpers associated with Stefan Horngacher—Wellinger and Philipp Raimund—collected points. As a result, the Germans now trail the Norwegians by 34 points.

Meanwhile, the Polish team continues to hold onto fifth place with a total of just 1,156 points.
