Nordic Ski World Championships: German Quartet Celebrates Bronze as Norway Wins

The German women's ski jumpers continue to spread joy at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim. After celebrating Selina Freitag's silver medal on Friday evening, the team was already set for another celebration on Saturday (March 1, 2025). The quartet consisting of Freitag, Agnes Reisch, Juliane Seyfarth, and Katharina Schmid missed defending their title but happily settled for bronze. "I think we did really well today," Freitag beamed to ZDF microphone after securing her second medal. "Now the whole team deserves a celebration," she added, emphasizing that they would toast their achievement.

Gold went to the strong Norwegian team, who dominated the competition to the cheers of their home fans. The Austrian quartet secured silver.

Tight Competition for Top Spots

In a bid for a good position for the second round, Seyfarth set the stage with a jump of 93.5 meters. Schmid, who has claimed numerous titles in recent years, has not yet shown her best form in Trondheim. However, she managed a respectable first jump of 91.5 meters. "I felt quite good about it," said Schmid, who trusted in the team's strength.

Rightfully so! Reisch then delivered a strong performance, reaching 99.5 meters with good grades, putting the German squad in strong contention for the podium behind Norway and Austria. Freitag followed with a jump of 95.5 meters, placing Germany in second spot behind Norwegians Anna Odine Strøm and Eirin Maria Kvandal. They were only 5.6 points shy of the top spot, with Austria trailing by 8.9 points.

Nail-Biting Finale

Hope lay on Reisch and Freitag to secure a medal. Although it wasn’t a bad jump by Reisch (90m), it became tight in the battle for the medal color. Seifriedsberger’s jump (96) reduced the gap to the Norwegian team led by Heidi Dyhre Traaserud (89m) to 9.7 points. Germany was already trailing by 56.6 points behind gold, but bronze was still within reach.

The DSV team relied on the showcased excellence of Selina Freitag, who, irrespective of the pressure, soared to 96 meters. Meanwhile, Pinkelnig delivered 92 meters, contributing to the Austrian team’s consistency for silver. The gold medal was sealed when Kvandal marked her performance at 95 meters, thereby solidifying her team's victory.
