Frida Westman Faces Another Surgery: Battling Discomfort in Her Knee

Frida Westman, a 23-year-old ski jumper, has encountered yet another hurdle in her athletic career, recently undergoing her sixth knee surgery. This procedure was necessary to remove painful scar tissue from her right knee, which had been hampering her movement and causing discomfort during training sessions.

In a recent interview, Westman shared her aspirations for this winter's competitions but acknowledged that her primary focus is on her recovery. "I certainly hope to compete at some point this winter, but it’s not something I am constantly thinking about," she remarked.

Last year, Westman underwent a major surgery on her right knee that involved repairing both her meniscus and ligament. After a year of intense rehabilitation, she opted for this latest procedure to tackle persistent issues that had surfaced in recent weeks.

"I decided to have this done now as it was affecting me significantly, making me somewhat insecure during training," she explained. The recovery from this operation will require her to pause training for two weeks, but she remains hopeful about returning to the slopes shortly after.

Regarding her potential return to competitive skiing, Westman affirmed, "I would say that I am quite close; now I just need to put all the pieces together."

With the World Championships in Norway approaching in February, Westman is choosing a cautious outlook for her participation. "I’m not putting pressure on myself regarding the upcoming events. It’s essential for me to return to skiing in a way that I find enjoyable, and we will see how that goes,” she stated.

With her unwavering commitment to recovery, Westman is determined to regain her competitive edge and continue her ski jumping journey.
