Ski Jumper Frida Westman Aims for World Championship After Injury Hell
After undergoing her sixth knee surgery, ski jumper Frida Westman has successfully completed her first jump back.
Her focus is now set on the World Championships in February.
– I will work hard to be able to start, says the 23-year-old.
In October, Frida Westman underwent her sixth surgery to address issues with her knee. Now she has completed her first jump again, highlighting her determination.
– It was nerve-wracking, but once I released the bar, I had no choice, she adds.
Almost Ready to Give Up
Despite the multiple surgeries, her knee is in decent shape, albeit not completely healthy. Westman has been very cautious with her rehabilitation process, admitting that it has taken a toll on her mentally, and at times, she felt close to giving up.
– It’s hard to put everything into words. Of course, I wouldn’t have wanted this, but I try to think that I will come out of it positively. I have to accept that this is my path, and I have chosen to fight. Everyone has different roads to the top.
Setting Sights on the World Championships
Her last competition was in March 2023. While she cannot specify when she will be ready to compete again, her sights are firmly set on the World Championships in Trondheim scheduled for February.
– I have big ambitions to participate. I will work hard to be able to start, but I will take into account my condition and whether I feel secure enough. If everything aligns, I will be there, she confirms.
