Freitag Wins Silver at the World Championships on the Large Hill

At Interruption: Freitag Wins WM Silver!

Selina Freitag has won the silver medal! The competition was interrupted after the first round due to strong winds.

Selina Freitag has clinched the silver medal at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim from the large hill, marking her third medal at the championship event in Norway.

After winning silver in the individual event and bronze in the team competition from the normal hill, the 23-year-old from Oberwiesenthal once again finished second only to Slovenia's Nika Prevc. The competition was called off after the first round due to strong winds.

"It's a Real Relief to Nail That Jump"

"The tension was quite high, even if I didn’t want it to be. I barely got into the flight here. Then to nail such a jump during the competition is a real relief," Freitag expressed with joy.

"I knew I had it in me. It’s so nice to have shown it in competition again. This was a really cool world championship, and finishing it off like this feels great. I’m extremely happy!" The 23-year-old immediately announced the celebration: "It’s going to be a long evening!"

Coach Kuttin Praises

"Hats off! She has remained mentally strong even when she struggled to find her rhythm on the large hill," said coach Heinz Kuttin. He noted that the jury made the right decision by concluding the event after a lengthy wind interruption: "It was no longer controllable - you would have flown out of the stadium."

Prevc became the first female jumper to win both individual titles at a world championships. The bronze medal went to Eirin Maria Kvandal from Norway. Seven-time world champion Katharina Schmid placed 19th.

This marks the second German medal in a women’s world championship decision on the large hill. In the inaugural event in 2021 in Oberstdorf, German jumpers didn’t win any medals. Schmid won silver in 2023 in Planica.
