Flying in Vikersund - Ski Jumping Alarm: "This cannot continue!"
In 2025, Vikersund experienced a major decline in attendance during its ski jumping event, attracting only 6,000 spectators. Organizer Leif Arne Berget expressed frustration, stating, "We feared red figures, but it cannot continue like this. It is not sustainable to be in the red by four million kroner on a long-term basis." The financing issues, primarily due to the high costs of snowmaking and maintenance, have sparked discussions with the Norwegian Federation regarding how to move forward. Though the event remains a part of the upcoming World Cup calendar in 2026, the future of ski jumping in Vikersund appears uncertain.
The financial losses amount to approximately 3.8 million Norwegian kroner (about 315,000 euros), prompting a crisis meeting to outline a sustainable approach for the upcoming years. "We must collaborate closely during spring and summer to strategize our future," Berget concluded. Photos from the Event:
