FIS Issues Statement After Scandal in Willingen – It Disappeared from the Web

The controversy in ski jumping reached a boiling point at the Willingen event! Slovenian jumper Timi Zajc, who had been disqualified in the first round for wearing a non-regulation suit, managed to pass the equipment control during his second jump by simply adjusting his suit during the celebration. This move sparked outrage among Slovenian athletes and led to heated discussions among the ski jumping authorities.

Following the incident, the International Ski Federation (FIS) released a statement on Saturday addressing the situation. The statement explained that after disqualification and subsequent reactions—including remarks made by Timi Zajc in the mixed zone—a meeting was held with all involved parties, including Timi Zajc, Christian Kathol, Sandro Pertile, and Robert Hrgota. In the statement, Zajc expressed deep regret over his behavior, apologized, and vowed that such actions would not happen again. Sandro Pertile later confirmed that the apology was accepted and expressed eagerness for upcoming events in Willingen despite the current turmoil.

However, in an unexpected turn, the FIS statement was removed from its official website just minutes after it was published. The incident has left the ski jumping community bracing for what promises to be stormy weeks ahead as the debate over equipment controls and fairness intensifies.
