Austrian ski jumper Daniel Huber has sustained an injury to his right knee during training at the Olympic venue in Lillehammer. The incident occurred on Thursday, prompting the coaching staff to take him to Austria for detailed medical examinations. Maximilian Ortner will take Huber’s place in the team.

Huber, who won the small Crystal Globe in the overall standings for the Ski Flying World Cup, hoped for a strong entry into the new season. "I hope the injury isn’t serious and that after rehabilitation I will soon be back with my teammates. I trained hard all summer and was looking forward to a strong start to the season," the jumper told reporters.

Huber is the Olympic champion in team large hill from the Beijing 2022 Games and a two-time silver medalist at the World Championships, which he won with teammates in Seefeld in 2019 and in Oberstdorf two years later. Last season, he triumphed in the Ski Flying World Cup.

The Ski Jumping World Cup season kicks off on Friday in Lillehammer with mixed team competitions. Following two competitions in this Norwegian city, competitors will move to Ruka, Finland, where events will take place on November 30 and December 1. After that, the cycle will head to Wisła, which will host competitions on December 7 and 8.
