Excitement Over 19-Year-Old Pole: A "Comet of Ski Jumping"

On Friday, at the Średnia Krokiew hill in Zakopane, 19-year-old Klemens Joniak astonished everyone by winning the summer Polish championships in ski jumping. Norwegian media referred to his victory as a "Polish bomb," emphasizing the potential of this young athlete. The interest has further risen due to the new role of the former Norwegian coach, Alexander Stoeckl, who has become the sports director in Poland.

In an article, the newspaper "Dagbladet" called Joniak "the new 19-year-old comet of ski jumping," highlighting that coach Thomas Thurnbichler and director Alexander Stoeckl now have a promising talent at their disposal. Poland, with veterans like Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, and Piotr Żyła, needs a young generation of jumpers.

The championships on medium jumps are an excellent opportunity for young competitors to showcase their skills.

The championships in Poland took place on Friday, while in Norway they occurred on Saturday. In Oslo, Marius Lindvik emerged as the winner, but Poland witnessed a sensation, indicating that the country has young reserves.

When asked for a comment by a Norwegian newspaper, Alexander Stoeckl stated, "He has been jumping well for some time, and in this championship, he showed two even better jumps. It's fantastic that young athletes are emerging to challenge the established teams."
