Eighth Gold in Sight: Schmid in the WM Mixed Team

Ski jumper Katharina Schmid has made the German mixed team for the World Championship decision on Wednesday (4:00 PM/ARD and Eurosport) and is competing for her eighth title. The record world champion from Oberstdorf secured her spot alongside the new vice-world champion Selina Freitag after outperforming Agnes Reisch in training on the large hill.

"I am really excited. I am grateful for the opportunity given to me," said Schmid. Germany has won gold in the mixed event five times in a row, with Schmid taking part four times, missing only in 2017 in Lahti. The 28-year-old has a chance to become the first German to win eight gold medals at Nordic Ski World Championships, sharing the current record of seven titles with ex-combined athlete Eric Frenzel. A singles decision is scheduled for Friday, following the mixed event.

In the two training rounds, Schmid placed 14th and 5th. Freitag was clearly better (3rd/5th), while Reisch finished twice in 11th. The third training session was canceled due to heavy snowfall.

The two starting spots for the German men will be decided after the evening training session.
