DSV-Adler Disappoint in Willingen – Tschofenig Wins

At the home World Cup in Willingen, the German ski jumpers experienced a debacle. During the event, Austrian Daniel Tschofenig won the competition with jumps of 135.5 and 142.0 meters, earning his sixth win of the season. Meanwhile, Felix Hoffmann, despite finishing 15th, managed to deliver the best result for the DSV-Adler team.

This result marked the worst seasonal performance by the previously brilliant DSV-Adler, coming just three weeks before the World Championships. In addition to Hoffmann, only Andreas Wellinger (17th) and the five-time season winner Pius Paschke (27th) managed to advance to the second round. Karl Geiger, once one of the few bright spots for the team, was as weak as never before, finishing 44th. For the tenth time in a single competition, the German team failed to reach the podium, and the margin was striking.

Former world champion Markus Eisenbichler (48th) and local favorite Stephan Leyhe (38th) also disappointed as they returned with the national group to the World Cup, dashing their hopes of a World Championship participation. Ultimately, it was Tschofenig, the winner of the Four Hills Tournament, who remained untouchable, with Anze Lanisek (Slovenia) and Maximilian Ortner (Austria) also making it to the podium.
