In a dramatic finish during the Nordic Ski World Championships, Ebba Andersson from Sweden triumphed over Norway's Therese Johaug in the skiathlon event. The race, which spanned 20 kilometers and was filled with suspense, saw a tightly contested battle among the leading athletes.

Johaug, who was expected to dominate early on, struggled to establish a significant lead in the classical segment. As they transitioned to skating skis, the lead pack, which included Heidi Weng and Jonna Sundling, remained closely knit. This group contested fiercely, with Johaug taking the lead like a locomotive, attempting to shake off her challengers.

An unexpected twist occurred during a material change when Norwegian athlete Astrid Öyre Slind accidentally kicked away her well-waxed ski, causing her to fall behind and out of medal contention.

As the race progressed, a collision between Weng and Sundling allowed the title fight to focus on Johaug and Andersson. In a gripping final stretch, both competitors sprinted neck and neck, but Andersson prevailed by a hair's breadth. Following the victory, she expressed disbelief at successfully defending her world title.

From a German perspective, hopes rested on Victoria Carl, who aimed for a top finish but fell short, concluding in ninth place. Nonetheless, German coach Peter Schlickenrieder expressed satisfaction with this outcome, indicating it matched their goal for the championship.
