Drama in Polish Ski Jumping: What Awaits Us in Zakopane

During the upcoming World Cup competitions in Zakopane, Poland will only be able to field five jumpers in the qualifiers. According to journalist Mateusz Leleń on platform X, these restrictions stem from several significant reasons. "It has never been so meager before," emphasizes Leleń, underscoring the gravity of the situation for Polish ski jumping.

One of the reasons is the reduced quota limits imposed by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The new regulations, aimed at leveling the playing field, restrict the number of competitors that each national team can enter.

Additionally, Poland chose to fully utilize its national quota during the competition in Wisła at the beginning of December. This move stripped the national team of the opportunity to enlarge their squad at the iconic Wielka Krokiew ski jump.

Another factor contributing to the limited number of participants is that Poland failed to secure additional starting spots during the Continental Cup (CoC) events. These events allow younger athletes to showcase their skills and earn points, which translate into larger quotas for the World Cup. Unfortunately, Polish ski jumpers have not been achieving competitive results in these competitions.

The World Cup in Zakopane is set for September 18 and 19, 2025. The competition will start with a team event followed by an individual event.

Following him are Paweł Wąsek (19th, 141 points), Jakub Wolny (26th, 63 points), Kamil Stoch (28th, 57 points), Dawid Kubacki (30th, 49 points), and Piotr Żyła (41st, 21 points).
