In a disappointing start to the Norwegian ski jumping hopes during the New Year's event held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Johann André Forfang finished as the best Norwegian in seventh place. He stated, "On a good day I believe I would have been competitive for the podium." Currently, he sits 22.5 points behind the Austrian leader Daniel Tschofenig.

Forfang's performance saw him land at 137.5 meters in difficult conditions during his second jump. Despite this, ski jumping expert Johan Remen Evensen noted that the quality of Forfang's jump indicates he is in good form.

Historically, Forfang has dealt with recurring back issues, expressing concerns prior to the competition, saying, "It’s a bit frightening. I hope for a good outcome each morning." After the New Year's event, he confirmed that his back felt fine.

As the ongoing Four-Hills Tournament continues, Forfang must ensure his condition does not worsen. After two events, he is 22.5 points behind the leader, as Austria holds the top three spots in the overall ranking after two jumps.

The last two events of this tournament are set to take place in Innsbruck on January 4 and Bischofshofen on January 6, where they can be followed on NRK Radio.
