German Ski Jumpers - Shower Gel and Missing Equality

German female ski jumpers faced significant hurdles during the Two Nights Tour, both in terms of their performances and the pressing issue of gender equality in the sport. Despite three athletes finishing in the top ten, the team missed out on a podium spot, highlighting the inequalities they face compared to their male counterparts, who receive substantial prize money for similar achievements.

The event in Oberstdorf attracted around 10,000 fans for the men's qualification but only about 3,000 remained for the women's event later, pointing to a lack of spectator support.

Athlete Selina Freitag reflected on the disparity, noting that for winning a qualifying round, her reward was shower gel and towels, while the male winners received monetary compensation of 3,000 Swiss Francs. This stark difference emphasizes the ongoing fight for equality.

DSV Sports Director Horst Hüttel acknowledged the need for change, indicating plans to discuss prize distributions with organizational committees, aiming for equitable treatment of women's events in the future.
