Curious Situation During Ski Jumps: Rules Had to Be Broken
Originally published in Przegląd Sportowy on November 30, 2024
During the ski jumping competition on Saturday in Ruka, a curious scenario unfolded with the judging panel. Typically, a mix of judges from different countries is expected, but in this instance, there were two Finnish judges. The absence of Norwegian judge Trond Bysveen, however, created this situation after he was unable to reach Kuusamo due to a minor accident on his trip by car. As a result, another Finnish judge had to step in for Bysveen in the judging tower.
The competitions faced challenges from the start due to inclement weather, forcing the Friday qualifiers to be pushed to Saturday. Throughout the training and qualifying rounds, disruptions continued as the organizers worked to stabilize conditions before competitions occurred.
Polish skier Aleksander Zniszczoł achieved a notable result for his team, finishing in a commendable 13th place. Despite scoring slightly less in his second jump, he performed well overall, with the best jump being delivered by German athlete Pius Paschke.
Sunday is set for more action with the individual competition scheduled to start early in the afternoon, with qualifiers planned prior. For live updates, readers are invited to check out the Przegląd Sportowy Onet website for comprehensive coverage.
