Contradictory Message for Opseth Following Knee Injury

Ski jumper Silje Opseth has been forced to undergo surgery due to a knee injury she sustained at a World Cup event in Japan. Initially, she was informed that surgery would not be necessary, and early examinations had revealed a ligament injury with an expectation of a prolonged absence from competition—though rehabilitation could start immediately.

However, further investigations uncovered that a ligament had completely torn, meaning that she now must have surgery. Opseth explained that she received the contradictory message only an hour and a half after her first rehabilitation session at Olympiatoppen, adding that her world “fell apart a little bit” at that moment.

Reflecting on the turbulent past weeks, Opseth stated, “The last few weeks have been turbulent. There have been a lot of feelings, and it wasn’t how I imagined the season would end.” With her season now over, including missing the World Championships in Trondheim and the rest of the 2025 season, her attention shifts toward the upcoming Olympic season.

Opseth, who has seven World Cup wins to her name — four of which were achieved on Norwegian soil — is currently the woman with the longest jump in the world. She set the world record on March 17, 2024, when she jumped 230.5 meters during a ski flying event in Vikersund, shortly after a fall during a trial jump at 236.5 meters. In championship competitions, she has earned three medals, including two World Championship bronzes in the team event and a silver in the mixed team event.
