Big Change in the Ski Jumping Squad! A Surprising Decision by the Coach
Originally published in Przegląd Sportowy on December 16, 2024
Thomas Thurnbichler had stated that he would announce the lineup for the World Cup events in Engelberg after Wednesday's training in Wisła. However, the Polish Ski Association has already revealed that Piotr Żyła will replace Dawid Kubacki in the squad. This change is notable as it indicates the first absence of Kubacki from the highest level competitions this season.
Kubacki has not shown regular progress since the beginning of winter, having been the weakest link in the team during the recent competitions in Germany, where he did not score points. The timing of this decision is surprising since just yesterday Thurnbichler indicated that he would finalize the team after Wednesday's training in Wisła.
Contrarily, Piotr Żyła has been showing noticeable progress, performing well in the Continental Cup in Ruka, where he finished in fourth place.
Qualifying rounds in Engelberg are scheduled for Friday, followed by individual competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
