After the Scandal – Norway Admits Cheating
Norway has admitted that they have cheated with the suits in the ski jumping World Championships.
Sports chief Jan-Erik Aalbu stated they attempted to "trick the system."
- "This is unacceptable," he said during a press conference.
The scandal erupted on Saturday and has been described as one of the biggest controversies the sport has seen. The Norwegian suit was made with an illegal stiffer seam in the crotch, aimed to create more aerodynamic resistance, thereby allowing for longer jumps.
Initially, Norway denied the allegations, suggesting it stemmed from jealousy. However, the narrative changed in a recent press conference where they flatly admitted to cheating.
- "We worked hard overnight to clarify what happened. I want to apologize for being so categorical. I did not know better. This comes as a shock to me," said sports chief Jan-Erik Aalbu, adding, "We cheated, and we have tried to deceive the system. This is unacceptable."
"We are Disqualified"
Film footage circulated online showing Norwegians modifying their outfits led several other nations to file a protest, ultimately resulting in the Norwegians being disqualified.
- "We are disqualified from a championship hosted at home. Now we will sit down and figure out what happened," said Jan-Erik Aalbu.
