After Horror Fall! Skispringer Has to End His Career

The Norwegian ski jumper Sondre Ringen has announced the end of his career.

On Instagram, Ringen stated that he can no longer perform at a high level. "Given the developments of the past year, it is clear that my body will not be able to handle high-level sport for a long time, if at all. It is with a heavy heart that I now hang up my skis."

Ringen suffered a horrific fall in December 2023 at Engelberg, losing his control mid-air and crashing head-first at about 113 meters. The fall resulted in a concussion, brain bleed, hip contusions, and abrasions.

"It has been over a year since the serious accident that kept me bedridden for a large part of 2024. My progress is stable and mostly heading in the right direction, but continuing my ski-jumping career is no longer sensible," he wrote.

Ringen competed in the World Cup 17 times, achieving his best result with an 18th place at the Holmenkollen in Oslo. In his farewell message, he thanked everyone for the support throughout his career, expressing pride in his time with the sport, where he made lifelong friends both Norwegian and foreign.
