Adam Małysz, speaking in Wednesday’s edition of "Rzeczpospolita," stated, “Unexpected medals taste the best.” He explained that although the overall season suggests that winning a medal will be hard, the Polish team is not giving up and will keep fighting for the best result in the World Championships in classical ski jumping.

When asked if he believes Poland can win a medal in the World Championships, Małysz replied, “Anything can happen, though if you look at the whole season, I expect it will be very difficult to secure one. However, I assure you that we are not giving up. We have Paweł Wąsek, who is consistently near the top. The other athletes did not participate in the World Cup events in Japan; they have been specially preparing for the competitions in Trondheim. You have to believe, but there is a risk that we might return from Norway without a medal.”

Commenting on his own career, Małysz recalled that before the Predazzo competitions he also experienced a form crisis but still managed to win two gold medals. He emphasized that he views the situation more as a competitor than as a president and prefers to celebrate successes when they actually occur rather than handing out medals before the event. “I know how hard it is to win a medal at a major event, but these unexpected ones are the sweetest,” he added.

In a subsequent part of the interview, Małysz also explained regarding why only Paweł Wąsek went to Japan. He mentioned that there was initial uncertainty on whether the top athletes would be sent to the Asian competitions. Ultimately, it was both the coach, Thomas Thurnbichler, and Wąsek himself who insisted on the trip.

When asked about a potential search for a new sports director following the split with Aleksander Stoeckl, Małysz made it clear that there are no immediate plans for a change. The current structure will remain in place until the end of the season, at which point the matter will be revisited.
