A New Ski Jump Will Be Built in Willingen, Where Małysz Made History

In Willingen, a new ski jump will be constructed. The location, well-known to ski jumping fans from World Cup competitions, will be enriched with a normal hill. Unlike Muehlenkopfschanze, competitors will also be able to train on it during the summer months.
The Muehlenkopfschanze is a staple of the World Cup calendar. Among other large jumps, it stands out due to its size, allowing for safe jumps over 150 meters. It is particularly memorable for Polish fans due to Adam Małysz’s legendary jump of 151.5 meters in 2001. However, the facility in Hesse can be notoriously unpredictable, often influenced by wind conditions.
It turns out that Willingen will soon have a smaller facility as well. As reported by the responsible Federal Ministry of the Interior, a HS87 normal jump will be built right next to Muehlenkopfschanze. Unlike its older sister hill, it will feature artificial turf, enabling summer training.
"This is good news for elite sports and Willingen itself. It’s an important center for youth sports and a host for World Cup competitions. The significance of the center will increase significantly with the addition of this new ski jump," emphasized Minister Nancy Faeser.
The construction of the jump is included in the budget plan for 2025. This is great news, particularly for younger jumpers and combiners. The facility in Winterberg, which was used for training up until recently, has lost its FIS homologation.
