3rd Place for Sundal in Germany – Norway's First Podium This Season
After seven individual World Cup competitions without any Norwegians on the podium this season, Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal managed to secure 3rd place in Titisee-Neustadt on Sunday.
Pius Paschke has been dominant in the World Cup and was in 2nd place before the final round, just 0.3 points behind leader Michael Hayböck.
In the second round, the German home favorite followed up with a strong jump of 142 meters, winning again.
Michael Hayböck led after the first round with a jump of 145 meters. He was unable to surpass Paschke but finished in 2nd place ahead of Sundal.
Sundal also achieved his personal best. The 23-year-old is making his debut in the World Cup this season.
The debutant has come close to a Norwegian podium finish before. In Ruka, he ended up in 4th place, while last weekend he took 5th in Wisla.
The foundation for the Norwegian's personal best in the World Cup was laid in the first round, where Sundal jumped 143 meters and was in third going into the finals.
- "It was an absolutely delightful jump. A high flight curve and "pure joy," said Sundal to Viaplay about his first jump on Sunday.
Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang were also positioned well before the final round in 7th and 8th places respectively. However, the second round did not turn out as well for the Norwegians.
