— I really didn't expect this... Although my jumps have been looking better lately, I truly didn’t expect to become the Polish champion! — says Klemens Joniak, the sensational new champion of Poland in ski jumping, shortly after his victory.

On Friday evening, Joniak outperformed prominent competitors including Dawid Kubacki and Piotr Żyła. He explained how he managed the enormous pressure before his final jump at the championship.

During the event, Kubacki, a seasoned 34-year-old, was the defending champion but ended up taking third place. The second place was secured by Paweł Wąsek, the recent winner of the Summer Grand Prix, while Joniak emerged as the winner, clearly surprised by his success.

Klemens Joniak spoke candidly after his unexpected win, saying, — I really didn’t expect this... today I felt great from the morning. I was full of energy, and I believe that helped me a lot today. This is undoubtedly my greatest success in my career.

When discussing how he handles pressure, especially having previously sabotaged a jump in a similar situation, he remarked, — I learned to approach the second series calmly and do what I do best.

Joniak led after the first series, jumping 104.5 meters on his first attempt. After a break, he sustained the pressure and achieved 102 meters in the second jump, clinching the championship title.

Joniak's stunning victory at this championship marks a significant moment in his young career, showcasing his potential in ski jumping amid stiff competition from veteran jumpers.
