Cat Causes Serious Injury
Swiss winter sports hope Pascal Müller has suffered a severe injury to his knee just before the season begins. The incident took an unusual turn due to a vet visit.
Müller is considered a major hope for Switzerland in the Nordic Combined. However, shortly before the start of the season, the 23-year-old was sidelined by a serious knee injury. Particularly bitter: his own cat is partially to blame for his impending season interruption.
According to the Swiss Ski Association, Müller sustained a tear of the meniscus in his right knee while performing a "simple everyday movement". Müller explained what exactly happened.
“I was trying to put my cat into the transport box when it clung onto my leg. I was startled and turned away. At that moment, I heard a loud crack in my right knee,” Müller reported. He immediately realized something was wrong. "I couldn’t straighten the knee anymore - it was a terrible feeling.”
Müller had previously injured his right knee in late July but had recovered from a capsule strain. Now, he faces another setback. He has already undergone surgery but will need several months off.
"In that moment, it felt like a punch in the face," Müller shared on Instagram. "I don’t know how to describe this feeling, but it was like building a house, brick by brick, and within a second, the whole house collapses. I had to let it sink in first and needed time for myself.”
Müller Impresses at Summer Grand Prix
It is uncertain when he will be able to return to competition. According to Blick, the 23-year-old is even at risk of missing the entire season. At the Summer Grand Prix, Müller had made headlines with a third-place finish in the overall ranking and was awarded as the best ski jumper.
"Life sometimes puts you to the test, even though I don’t see the sense and purpose in it right now. I accept the challenge and will come back stronger!" Müller added.
