Riiber Opens Up About Tough Week: – Weight and Energy Levels Are Going One Way

Jarl Magnus Riiber, the Norwegian king of Nordic combined, faced a tough week with declining energy levels but still managed to secure second place in the competition in Ruka, Finland. He admitted, "This past week has been challenging, and my energy levels and weight are headed downwards. However, I'm still able to compete well," he told Viaplay after the event.
Throughout the weekend, Riiber struggled with his energy levels, saying that his body was not absorbing nutrients effectively and that he was experiencing frequent bathroom trips and low energy, which affected both his skiing and jumping ability.
Expert Magnus Moan expressed concern about Riiber's ongoing issues, labeling the situation as alarming and acknowledging that it has persisted for quite some time. He stressed the importance of addressing the problem, hoping Riiber would return to his previous peak performance levels.
Before the jump event on Sunday, Riiber was in tenth place but jumped his way to the lead, which he held until the last jumper, Vinzenz Geiger, surpassed him in score. The Norwegian athlete's challenging ramp-up to the season has included injuries, a stomach virus, and dental surgery. "Losing to a German sweep is disappointing. My preparation hasn't been optimal, and I struggle to recuperate as I wish. I’ll take happiness in finishing fourth without being far behind," he noted after placing fourth the previous day.
The Nordic combined elite will next compete in Lillehammer.
