Jarl Magnus Riiber showcased an impressive performance in the second Nordic combined event in Lillehammer on Sunday, decisively claiming victory with an outstanding lead. Having finished second the day before, the Norwegian athlete triumphed in the 10 km race with a remarkable margin of 47.5 seconds over compatriot Jens Luras Oftebro.
Surprisingly, Riiber recorded only the 15th fastest skiing time, but his strong showing in the jumping round earlier in the day secured him a commanding lead, which he effectively transformed into a win.
French competitors Laurent Muhlethaler and Mattéo Baud, who were positioned 5th and 6th after the jumping round, ultimately finished the day in 6th and 7th, respectively. On the podium, Germany’s Vinzenz Geiger impressed by clocking the fastest skiing time of the day, climbing from a significant deficit to snatch third place.
The results further solidified Riiber’s status as the leader of the overall World Cup standings, while Baud maintained his 5th place, and Muhlethaler made progress to rise to 7th.
