Nordic Combined World Cup in Chaux-Neuve Canceled Due to Snow Deficiency
Originally published in L'Équipe on January 09, 2023
The Nordic Combined World Cup event scheduled for January 21 and 22 in Chaux-Neuve has been officially canceled. This decision came from a collaboration between the International Ski Federation (FIS), the French Ski Federation (FFS), and the local organizing committee, all citing adverse weather conditions and insufficient snow coverage as the primary reasons for the cancellation.
Patrick Guglielmetti, who leads the organizing committee in Chaux-Neuve, conveyed the team's disappointment, noting that despite intensive efforts over the past few weeks, they could not guarantee the necessary snow conditions required for the event.
It has been two years since Chaux-Neuve last hosted a World Cup competition, with the most recent event held in 2019. Looking ahead, a snow check is scheduled for another major Nordic skiing event in France—the cross-country skiing World Cup at La Station des Rousses, where competitors are set to gather from January 27 to 29.
