Nordic Combined - Lamparter Places Third in Riiber's Jubilee Win
Johannes Lamparter
Ex-world champion Johannes Lamparter earned the first podium finish of the season for Austria's Nordic combined team by finishing third in Lillehammer on Saturday.
"I'm very happy"
Top favorite and local hero Jarl Magnus Riiber celebrated his 75th individual win, finishing ahead of Germany's Julian Schmid and Lamparter. In the women's compact competition, Lisa Hirner finished fifth after having been third the previous day. The win went to defending World Cup champion Ida Marie Hagen from Norway.
Riiber's success came decisively, due to a clear lead in the jumping phase. Lamparter, starting from ninth, surged onto the podium with a strong performance, despite narrowly losing the sprint for second place to Schmid. "I’m really happy with the podium. It’s going in the right direction. I worked well with Julian, thankfully we advanced and decided our positions in the final round, he was just ahead of me," said Lamparter.
Also, Austrian teammates Martin Fritz (8th) and Franz-Josef Rehrl (9th) finished within the top ten. Stefan Rettenegger finished 11th, while his brother Thomas Rettenegger fell from third to 15th place in the finishing stages. The men will compete in another compact event on Sunday in Norway, while the women won't compete again until the next event in two weeks at Ramsau.
