Nordic Combined: Armbruster Far Behind - Nowak with Chances
Nathalie Armbruster has likely thrown away her last chance for an individual medal at the World Championships after a poor jump in rainy conditions. The 19-year-old managed only 87.0 meters and is set to start the 5-kilometer ski race in 20th position at 16:00 CEST.
"Unfortunately, Nathalie couldn't put together a good jump. We need to analyze this," said national coach Florian Aichinger to ZDF. Armbruster's deficit to the leading competitor Ingrid Laate is now 2:18 minutes. However, Laate is among the weaker skiers in the race.
Ida Marie Hagen is the top contender for gold, starting in third place just 1:05 minutes behind Laate, while defending champion Gyda Westvold Hansen sits in fifth, trailing by 1:12.
There remains a slight chance for bronze for Jenny Nowak (+1:13) and Maria Gerboth (+1:27) who are currently in sixth and eighth place. Aichinger noted, "Jenny and Maria are well-placed and will see what they can do."
Armbruster and Nowak previously secured a silver medal in the mixed competition alongside Vinzenz Geiger and Julian Schmid, despite missing out in the mass-start individual.
