This Thursday, the FIS Council met in Zurich and officially announced the exciting news: Lahti, Finland, will host the FIS Nordic World Championships in 2029.
In the weeks following last month’s Congress, where the host was initially set to be revealed, the Finnish Ski Association and the city of Lahti collaborated diligently to finalize the remaining details. Today, they formally signed the hosting agreement, marking a significant milestone for both the city and the sport.
Lahti is a cherished destination on our calendar, and we are excited to welcome them once again as a world-class host for our future World Championships,” said Johan Eliasch, FIS President.
The 2029 event will be notable as it marks the eighth time Lahti has hosted the Nordic World Championships, having last taken place there in 2017.
Additional Hosts for Junior Events Announced
In addition to the confirmation of Lahti as the host for the main event, the Council has also awarded hosting rights for two upcoming junior competitions:
- FIS Junior Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined World Championships 2025 – Lake Placid, USA
- FIS Junior and U23 Nordic World Ski Championships 2027 – Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan
These events highlight the ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent in Nordic skiing, ensuring the sport’s bright future.
